A government bus taking 45 Guiyang residents to a quarantine hotel 250 km away rolls off a mountain highway.
27 dead. 20 injured.
They were not dying of COVID. They were dying of zero-COVID.
The city had promised “social clearance.” Hotels were full. So they loaded people onto a bus after midnight, driver in a full hazmat suit, on a road that long-distance coaches are banned from using between 2 and 5 a.m.
Then they called it a “traffic accident.”
Chinese netizens wrote one sentence before it was scrubbed:
“我们都在这辆大巴上.”
“We are all on this bus”
Four years later the investigation report still isn’t public.
Effective governance only on things that doesn’t matters.
