A cook and former Army Ranger, Braman didn't hesitate after Flight 77 struck. He ran straight into the burning building.
Inside the smoke, he heard someone clapping their hands, unable to speak or scream for help. It was Sheila Moody, just on her second day at the job.
"There was a hand in the smoke," Moody said. "He reached and pulled me out."
Braman kept going back in, working nearly 60 straight hours searching the ruins, recovering 63 victims total. He suffered permanent lung damage from the effort.
Moody survived, one of only three from her office of 46. She calls him her "guardian angel" to this day, and says she's naming her first grandson after him. 💔
