Reminder that China DOES have animal protection laws for wild animals like pandas and harming them results in CRIMINAL prosecution and charges such as fines, jail time, and assets seizure so China's excuse for not making anti-cruelty laws for stray and pet cats and dogs (companion animals) and not making it a criminal offense to torture them is bullshit when there's a legal precedent for animal protection laws in China already.

"CHINA HAS NO ANIMAL PROTECTION LAWS" is not true and so is in fact WORSE because China DOES have anti-cruelty laws for 2,900+ wildlife species. Worse because China willingly *chooses* not to legislate a different set of anti-cruelty and welfare laws for companion animals, pets and strays, livestock, farm and other animals nation-wide, year after year after year after year after year after YEAR for... complicated cultural reasons or some bullshit.

On one hand China says it is advanced, modern, industrialised and a formidable hegemon, yet it is still so feeble that it can't manage to legislate anti-cruelty laws for like an additional 10-30 domesticated animal species and hasn't been able to for decades 🤨

What are you China? Modern, capable and civilised or so feeble, feckless and incompetent that you can't string together simple "don't torture animals" laws nation-wide?
