Irish Chinese Restaurant Staff Dormitory Found to Have 34 Sleeping Spaces, Employees Jointly Deny Exploitation

Recently, an employee dormitory of a Chinese restaurant group in Dublin, Ireland, was exposed by local media for severe overcrowding and fire safety issues.

According to Irish media reports, the company involved, Cainte Entertainment, rented a house with only 4 bedrooms to accommodate chefs recruited from China.
Fire inspectors discovered that, in addition to the bedrooms, areas such as the living room, dining room, and sunroom were also fitted with beds, with a total of at least 15 bunk beds and 34 sleeping spaces inside the house.

The Dublin Fire Department believes the residence poses fire safety hazards and recommends ceasing its use in the current manner. The company, however, claims that the maximum number of employees residing there simultaneously was 26.

On the evening of August 5, China Song, a Chinese restaurant under Cainte Entertainment, published a joint open letter from multiple employees on social media.

The employees emphasized that the accommodation is provided free of charge by the company, that check-in is voluntary, and stated: "We have not been exploited or abused by our employer."
