On the 10th anniversary (July 12), 14 countries + EU reaffirmed the landmark UNCLOS arbitration: China’s “historic rights” & nine-dash line have no legal basis. The ruling is final & binding on China & Philippines.
Beijing’s reply? “Illegal, invalid scrap paper.” They don’t accept or recognize it — then urgently summoned Japan’s diplomat for “provocation.”
The hypocrisy? China is a UNCLOS signatory but rejects the binding award while cherry-picking UN resolutions and international law that suit its interests.
Same playbook for Taiwan: “Internal matter,” “historic rights,” reject external rulings or interference.
When the rules favor them → enforce strictly.
When rules constrain them → “null and void.”
