Sudan owes China over $5 billion in debt. In exchange, Beijing is securing deals such as a $300 million copper project where it takes 70% of the profits for 30 years. China has already invested around $3 billion in Sudan’s oil sector over the past three decades.
No functioning legislature ratified this. No community consultation. No environmental assessment. This regime signing has no legal authority to bind a future state and this is EXACTLY the reason why Beijing chose it.
A desperate Junta simply signs.
