The company has largely exited the foundation model race. Instead: sovereign AI deals across Central Asia, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. Rmb 500m in 2025 orders, Rmb 1.5bn contracted for 2026. A seat on Kazakhstan’s national AI council. A joint venture applying AI to poultry farming in Thailand.
Compare the peers. When Zhipu and MiniMax filed for IPOs, they were burning Rmb 300m and Rmb 2bn a month. 01 AI sidestepped the compute arms race entirely, and targets profitability in 2027.
