On December 8, 2025, the Tokyo home of veteran Japanese soul singer ZOOCO (Kazue Muto) was almost completely destroyed in just 20 minutes after a Chinese-made household energy storage battery (brand 777SYD) spontaneously caught fire and exploded.
The battery had only been used twice. It was fully charged and stored as backup when it detonated. The fire burned through 27 tsubo of living space.
Total losses: 45 million yen, including 25 million yen in renovations and 20 million yen in destroyed belongings and memories.
The Chinese manufacturer’s response? They offered only to refund the battery’s purchase price, then completely ghosted her when she sought further accountability.
A devastating 45 million yen loss — all because of one unreliable “Made in China” battery.
