Iran was very tough and fierce on the first day of the war — somewhat unexpected.
1. Iran announced that its Supreme Leader Khamenei would soon deliver a speech regarding the outbreak of the war. Not only was he not killed in U.S. airstrikes, he is still able to speak publicly. If it is an audio address — or even a video appearance — it would be a blow to the morale of the United States and Israel.
2. Sources from Qatar’s Ministry of Defense confirmed to Al Jazeera that an early-warning radar site in northern Qatar was struck by Iranian missiles. There are currently no reports of casualties, and damage is still being assessed. Earlier, Iran claimed that a U.S.-deployed radar in Qatar had been “completely destroyed.” The radar was reportedly used to track ballistic missiles, with a detection range of 5,000 kilometers.
3. Iran announced that it severely damaged a U.S. combat support ship with missiles. This claim has not yet been confirmed by the U.S. military.
4. Iran claimed that at least 200 U.S. personnel were killed or injured in Iranian missile strikes. This has also not been confirmed by the U.S. military.
5. The Iranian military stated that the missiles used in today’s counterattack were merely “old stock from the warehouse.” Iran will soon display and deploy a series of “previously unseen mysterious weapons” on the battlefield. The power and technological level of these advanced systems will far exceed outside expectations and deliver devastating blows to the aggressors.
In summary, Iran’s first-day counterattack appeared very strong in momentum, projecting a tough stance and “putting on a strong show.” The initial objective of the U.S. and Israel to suppress and deter Iran in one move was not achieved.
The war has just begun. Iran’s subsequent performance is worth watching.
