Iran launched what it describes as its “sixth wave” of strikes on Sunday morning, March 1. Fresh blasts were heard across the Gulf cities of Dubai, Doha and Manama. Debris from one aerial strike caused a fire in Dubai’s major commercial port, Jebel Ali. The UAE Ministry of Defence confirmed its air defence systems intercepted and destroyed 137 ballistic missiles and 209 drones.
Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and the UAE all temporarily closed their airspace and condemned Iran’s attacks on their territories. Sea vessels operating in the Gulf received messages on the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, according to the UK Maritime Trade Operations agency. The only GCC country Iran has not struck is Oman. Oman was the mediator in the US-Iran indirect negotiation talks.
