I really must push back on the idea of the United States as the "volatile" or "unpredictable" party in global affairs. Just days ago, Chairman Xi purged the top general in the military, in a stunning display of great weakness or great power, and which may or may not presage an imminent invasion of Taiwan. The Beijing portrays itself as a global and domestic force for stability -- but that's radically different than actually acting as one.
This is not to say that Trump and the United States aren't "volatile" at the moment--of course they are. But these concepts are always relative, and it's China and its actions, domestically and globally, that are more unpredictable.
