In caves across France and Spain, archaeologists have discovered numerous stenciled hands with one or more fingers missing.
However, life in the Stone Age was extremely harsh. People were constantly exposed to bitey animals, smashy rocks, open fires, and freezing temperatures.. any of which could have resulted in serious injuries or the loss of fingers.
