What’s interesting aren’t even the politics — it’s the logic.
They said he was abusing a residence permit.
He didn’t have one.
So they detained his brother instead — the one who does live there legally.
Then they said the brother’s permit was fake.
That alone tells you everything.
It instantly reminded people of an old Russian joke:
First time, no permit — you get arrested.
Second time, you have a permit — they tear it up and arrest you anyway.
Funny joke.
Until you realize it’s not really a joke.
Japan didn’t “lose” Chinese tourists because Russia is better.
Japan lost them because politics pushed them out.
Russia didn’t “win” them because it’s safer.
It just opened the door wider.
Being welcomed is one thing.
Being protected is another.
And those two are not the same.
