1) In the wake of the Sputnik moment, America increased government support of R&D and stepped up education in STEM,
2) We now have another consequential moment, that of DeepSeek and Made in China 2025,
3) But this time around America is cutting deeply research funding, restricting our access to international talents, imposing tax on university endowments, pausing disbursement of approved grants, chipping away the CHIPS Act.
