- DC Police Commander placed on leave, it was discovered he directed officers to downgrade felony reports and alter crime classification
- Charges like felony assault, shootings and stabbings were downgraded
- Just before the election last year, the DC Police Commander deliberately manipulated the data and show improvements in crime
- Their manipulated stats showed a 26% drop in violent crime

Here’s what charges were downgraded to

- Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (ADW) - e.g., bat or gun (Felony; counts as violent crime) was downgraded to simple assault (misdemeanor)

- Shooting or Stabbing (Felony; aggravated assault) was downgraded to “injured person to hospital” (non-criminal report)

- Carjacking (Felony; robbery with violence) was downgraded to theft

- General Felonies (e.g., thefts, robberies) were downgraded to Misdemeanors (unspecified)
