Billions of years ago, waves lapped at sandy shores while rivers fed a vast Martian ocean.

New radar scans from China’s Zhurong rover uncovered 1.3 kilometers of buried coastal deposits, eerily similar to Earth’s shorelines.

The layers formed over tens of millions of years, pointing to a long-lived ocean—not just a one-off flood.

If Mars had stable water, it might have had the right conditions for life.
