America is in its most perilous situation. Forget about economic growth or inflation; these are almost incidental and soon to be foregone damage from this administration. America’s very safety is being undermined by the self-inflicted hubris that is now playing out in front of all of us. There will be excesses of diseases, deaths, incidents or accidents of many types and mishaps. The first and the foremost function of a government is that it keeps us safe. Yes, there are annoyances, inconveniences, unpleasant formalism, and waste and we should always think of ways to improve our government. But these are bugs not features of our government and some of these are the price we pay for in order that planes do not suddenly fall from sky, virus spreads without awareness and mitigation, and chemicals spill into our water streams unimpeded. What those techno Red Guards are doing to the federal government is that they are eviscerating the safety function of the government, a function we all took for granted when it was there but with ghastly consequences when that function goes missing.
