- Israel could have targeted him earlier. They chose not to for several reasons. Most importantly, he was leading the negotiations related to the hostages. Israel wanted to pursue this to the end.

- He is technically the leader of Hamas. Ismail Haniyeh is seen as a politician, not a fighter. Salah is the nastiest and is seen by his people as the de facto leader because of his militant history and ensuing role in the negotiations which led to the release of many Palestinian terrorists in exchange for Gilad Shalit in 2011.

- There is almost certainly a HUMINT element here. Spies are much easier to recruit in Lebanon than in Gaza, for many reasons. Most importantly, Hezbollah has many enemies in Lebanon.

- This is troubling Hamas and its allies. They're wondering who "sold" Al Aruri to Israeli intelligence.

- Personally, I am not worried about Hezbollah. The chubby terrorist (AKA Nasrallah) knows that escalating against Israel may very well be the end of him. Not because of Israel, but due to the potential reaction of a starving nation being dragged into a war that it did not want!
