根据《纽约时报》看到的住户邮件，他们曾致函香港劳工处，指出这些防护网可能不符合阻燃标准。
他们还提到了使用泡沫板的风险，曾经担任土木工程师、现为社会活动人士的潘焯鸿说，他与屋苑居民一起提出了这些关切。
周五，市政府官员告诉记者，发泡胶板为高度易燃材料，助长了火势以惊人的速度蔓延。
负责监管工作场所安全问题的劳工处在声明中承认，最初曾错误驳回居民对防护网的担忧，声称现有规定并不涵盖脚手架上所用材料的阻燃标准。其后又根据承建商宏业建筑工程有限公司提交的文件，告知居民施工现场材料符合消防安全要求。
