Latvia, 1992.

After half a century of brutal occupation, Latvia annulled the nazi-soviet pact and ordered its occupiers out.

Yet these were russia’s “elite” occupier units still prowling Latvia’s streets.

They were drunk and aggressive, abusing ordinary people, and expecting them to pick up their trash.

Instead, Latvians called upon their newly established National Guard to teach them that Latvia is an independent nation.

In this video, Latvians are speaking in blue and the russian occupiers are speaking in red.

At first, the National Guard is polite and reasonable, but the occupiers continue to act with impunity when they think there are no consequences.

That suddenly changes.

This is just one of many incidents around the time, but fortunately it happened to be filmed - providing us with a snapshot of history …and a lesson for us all now.

Russian aggressors always become more aggressive when they feel the absence of consequences.

But they are just ordinary humans, not “mysterious souls”. And they are scared of other ordinary people standing up to them and bringing them to justice.

The same is true for russian occupiers today. We can support Ukraine and bring them to justice.
